What does education mean to you? For Kathryn Newman, it means determination. After a 20-year absence from the workforce while raising her five children outside of New York City, Kathryn’s family relocated to Utah. Shortly after that move, she started working in the mayor’s office in Vineyard City, only to quickly realize that her skills needed to be updated quickly in order to succeed and advance in her new position. Kathryn enrolled in an SUU Professional Development course in Sep. 2020; she loved online learning so much that she soon began online coursework for her Master of Interdisciplinary Studies degree, which she completed in April 2022. Her initial course gave her the confidence to return to school and do well. Kathryn is grateful for her wonderful professors, instructors and fellow students, and will always remember walking beneath the bell tower on graduation day.
