Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Artists Bob Fisher and Greg Stanforth will be giving a special double presentation on succeeding in the arts business today, the relevance of sketchbooks, and the ever-increasing importance of arts education at SUU’s Art Insights, on Thursday February 21st, 2013. The lecture begins at 7pm at Sterling Church Auditorium, Sharwan Smith Student Center.  Admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.

Bob Fisher is an Atlanta-based visual artist, designer, and writer who works primarily in sketchbook form. After graduating from the Atlanta College of Art, Bob exhibited his paintings, sculptures, and prints throughout the southeast United States and in the U.K. He frequently included sketchbooks in his shows, allowing viewers a unique entrée into his creative process. In the mid-1990s, Bob turned his attention to illustration and graphic design, eventually becoming an art director for Cartoon Network and the owner of a design and communications consultancy. In 2003, he launched sketchbob.com, an online gallery of his work. In 2010, the site was expanded to include his writings on sketchbooks, art, design, and the creative process, as well as resources for those who wish to further investigate the potential of sketchbooks as a medium of creative expression. Today, Bob continues to share his work through the site and live exhibitions, and speaks to student, cultural, and professional groups on the topics of creativity and art. Says Fisher, “Since the early 1990s, the fields of art and design have been revolutionized by technology and the world has developed a new respect for creativity and innovation. Today’s students will enter a much more diverse, competitive, and globalized environment -- one in which their visual communication skills provide a tremendous advantage.”

Greg Stanforth has been an educator for over thirty years, teaching from kindergarten through college in public elementary, public and private high schools, and adjunct in small college and university art and photography programs. He holds a BFA and MA in Art Education from the University of Cincinnati, a BFA in Photography from the Art Academy of Cincinnati where he is a current member of the Board of Trustees, and an MFA in Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Along with being a US Navy veteran, he has worked as a professional photographer, game designer, exhibiting fine artist and admissions representative. Although most of his time is taken up with the duties as an art educator, assisting students with their successes in obtaining entrance and scholarships to college art programs, he makes time to exhibit and speak at various conferences. He is the Chair of the Art/Photo Department at Archbishop Moeller High School and teaches three Studio Art & Design courses, two of which are AP, Beginning Digital Photo and Advanced AP Digital Photo, and AP Art History.

Art Insightsis a weekly program hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art and Design faculty. Students and community members meet weekly to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights and attend gallery openings. Admission is free, and the general public is invited to attend.
