Dr. Elise Leahy holds a Ph.D. in French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is an Associate Professor of French. She has been teaching at SUU since fall of 1992. In graduate school, she focused on French theatre and wrote a dissertation on late twentieth century historical dramas by Hélène Cixous. More recent research interests include autobiography and memoire by contemporary French and francophone writers, music and literature by writers of immigrant origin in contemporary France, and modern and contemporary French theatre. Teaching interests include French language, phonetics, translation, modern French and francophone literature and theatre, and world cinema. Dr. Leahy is currently serving on the Executive Board of the Association of Departments of Foreign Languages and as Chair of the Department of Languages & Philosophy.
