Because there was only one person able and willing to shoulder the responsibilities of the President-Elect of the Faculty Senate for the 2016-2017 academic year, and to become President of the Faculty Senate for the 2017-2018 school year, our current election will consist of a vote of confidence.
Dr. Nathan Barker has bravely accepted the nomination for this important post, and I know he will be an excellent president, and a strong voice for the faculty as we move to address important issues over the coming year(s), including the current revamping of LRT policy. Please see his biography below.

And thanks in advance for your support,
Faculty Senate President 2016-2017
Dr. Nathan Barker, Associate Professor Computer Science
One of the earliest memories I have of SUU is when my mother worried that I was spending too much time playing video games. She bought me some tights and a tunic, and took me to the Greenshow to teach people how to juggle. Spending summer nights on campus was great. A few years later, I moved from the lawn of the upper quad, into the ELC and the GE buildings where I learned about Computer Science, German, and Math. Some of the great faculty on campus advised me to get an advanced degree, so I moved to the University of Utah where I got my Ph.D. in Computer Science by applying Computer Science principles to a problem in the field of Biology. I started teaching at SUU in the fall of ’07 and have had a great time teaching programming, forensics, mobile, bioinformatics, and other computer courses. I have published 3 journal articles, 8 peer reviewed conference papers, and have worked with faculty and students on a few grants. I am also a certified computer hacking forensics investigator. You might remember me when we served together on the Faculty Senate, on one of the curriculum committees, a grant committee, or the judicial committee. I am excited to be nominated for consideration for the faculty senate president. I will continue serving SUU in whatever capacity the university wants me to in order to further the great traditions and institution we have here at SUU.
