SUU First Year Experience and Orientation

FYE and Orientation Programs

Your first year at Southern Utah University is one of excitement and uncertainty. In order to make your transition to the thunderbird nation positive, we offer a variety of programs.

New Student Checklist - New students must complete the required section of the checklist to be prepared for SUU.

Online Orientation- Required for all incoming students, online modules are completed through your mySUU Portal. Don't worry! Your ACE will be reaching out to help you through this process.

Thunder U- An all inclusive welcome program that takes place prior to the start of school. Students indicate their favorite interest and participate in activities surrounding that interest throughout Thunder U. Thunder U offers a chance to connect with key resources, like your ACE, and learn other important information to get you started on the right foot.

T-Bird Outdoor Connection T-Bird Outdoor Connection (TOC) is designed for participants to create lasting friendships, connect to the SUU community, and appreciate the amazing places surrounding Cedar City. TOC provides the opportunity to learn and be inspired in natural landscapes through meaningful adventure. While not required, TOC can be very beneficial. Your four-day adventure awaits!

International Student Orientation- This orientation is for students who are currently living outside of the United States. For more information, visit the International Orientation page.

Parent and Family Orientation - Parents and Families are invited to attend an orientation during Thunder U. Get connected to our Parent and Family office by visiting

Personalized Visits - As an Incoming student, the FYE Office and your ACE will create a unique visit based off your needs. For example, you can tour your actual classrooms, meet with your Student Success Advisor to complete a graduation plan, meet with your Financial Aid Counselor to discuss paying for college, etc.
