Southern Utah University is proud to offer its new Graduate Certificate in Mobile Technology, Learning, & Design program, helping educators distinguish themselves, broaden their skillsets, and enrich their students' experiences through the integration of applications and the leadership skills necessary to manage strong distance learning programs.

A competency-focused graduate program, the Certificate in Mobile Technology, Learning, & Design is to intended to help educators learn by doing, linking students to cutting-edge Apps and mobile education platforms and encouraging teachers to generate content that can be immediately applied to both face-to-face and online classrooms.

SUU's Certificate in Mobile Technology, Learning, & Design will help educators gain core competencies in instructional design, utilizing technology in K-12 classrooms, developing online projects for students, the leadership skills necessary to promote technology usage at school or district levels, curriculum development for online classrooms, adoption and creation of learning applications, and best practices for technology-centered pedagogy.

An online Adobe Connect orientation webinar will be provided to orient you to the program. This includes a chat feature throughout to answer student questions. The orientation link will be emailed to you prior to your course start date.

SUU creates teacher education programs to align with Nevada Administrative Code (NAC). Final licensure approval is required by Nevada's Office of Educator Licensure and students are recommended to contact them with questions. NOTE: If you are a Clark County School District (CCSD) public educator, you will earn 5 contact units (CU’s)/credit. So, for this program you will earn 90 CU’s.

Course Descriptions

GOSC 6031 - Instructional Design for Educational Technology

The goal of this course is to provide an introduction to instructional design theories, principles and models and an overview of their historical development. Instructional design models are considered with respect to their implications for technology applications in education.

GOSC 6038 - Instructional Design for Mobile Learning

Participants will explore educational technology standards and critical components necessary for efficient and effective mobile learning. Participants will develop and organize online content for their own classes for delivery in both a technology-enhanced face-to-face setting and online for distance learning. No prerequisites.

GOSC 6039 - Adoption and Development of Apps

Course prepares educators to develop learning experiences and direct instruction through the adoption of mobile applications and platforms to enable students to employ the use of mobile devices to extend the learning environment beyond the classroom. No prerequisites.
