Jumpstart GE

More about Jumpstart

How does Jumpstart work?

Jumpstart consists of a full suite of GE courses that uniquely integrate around a theme led by seven of SUU’s best faculty. Despite the highly integrated format, each course will eventually appear separately on your SUU transcript. These courses total 33 credit hours, split between the fall and spring semesters. WARNING: This is a year-long commitment. You cannot leave SUU halfway through the year and earn partial grades. Stick with us for one academic year and you will receive your GE Certificate of Completion. You’ll also be over halfway to earning your Associates Degree.

How do you get into Jumpstart?

Begin by making sure that you are fully accepted to SUU, have filled out the T-Bird Take-Off Questionnaire, and have paid the Enrollment Deposit. You should also make sure that SUU has been sent the most up-to-date versions of your high school transcripts and any transcripts from other universities that you completed concurrent enrollment courses with. Your ACT scores should be on your high school transcript, but you could have these scores sent to SUU directly, as well.

Once we have all of the above information we can determine if Jumpstart is a perfect fit, or guide you in the right direction based on your educational goals. To begin the application process to Jumpstart, simply send an email to our project manager at jumpstart@suu.edu. The School of Integrative and Engaged Learning will then contact you to clarify your career and educational goals and will then lead you through the rest of the registration process.

Jumpstart Sections and Daily Schedule

Class will be everyday in BC 301. We’ll also be going on field trips and to other parts of campus regularly. The courses will be highly integrated and not structured in the typical way. Our intention is to illustrate how connected the various courses are. For example, biology will merge with geology, fine arts, english and all of the other courses. You’ll be writing, making movies, developing a personal website, and giving speeches. This will be an educational adventure that you’ll never forget.

Your Options

There are three different sections of Jumpstart this fall. The themes are totally different and a few of the GE courses are different as well. Select your preference and we’ll do our best to accommodate. Both will fulfill your GE requirement, and will be the most engaging way to start your college career. Remember that space is limited, so you need to enroll as soon as possible. Also, if you have friends that want in the program as well, you’ll need to make sure that all of you go through the process together so that we can get you all in the same section.

How should you prepare for Jumpstart?

Come ready to explore! Bring a laptop or iPad, if you have one. Otherwise, we’ll have computers and other gadgets that you can use. Also, due to the highly integrated nature of this program, textbooks won’t be used in some of the courses. The money you don’t spend on textbooks will be used to purchase or rent other equipment. For example, your section may go snowshoeing, hiking, or require you to have a digital camera. Your Jumpstart Team Leaders will contact you with these needs prior to the beginning of Fall semester.

If you have any other questions do not hesitate to contact us.

We want to make sure that you start off your college career right.
