Community Health Worker Program Certificate

This certificate program offers an introduction to the Community Health Worker (CHW) profession. CHW are public health workers who serve as a bridge between communities, health care systems and state/local health departments.

With content curated by the Utah Department of Health and current CHW instructors, participants will be prepared to work in hospitals, clinics, health departments, schools, community health centers and home health.

This course includes online modules, journal entries, reading reflections and assessments. Students are encouraged to participate in online discussions relevant to the modules and reading assignments, with the end goal of building a learning community focused on the CHW profession.

Expected learning outcomes for the certificate include:

  • Gain skills in self-awareness and cultural awareness, relationship building, client centered skills, behavior change, SMART goals, motivational interviewing, developing and managing groups, care coordination, trauma-informed care, medical health challenges and behavioral health challenges.

The next cohort starts on May. 22, 2023 and runs for 12-weeks. You can expect to spend 10-12 hours of course work per week to complete the certificate.
