Angela Pool-Funai

Dr. Angela Pool-Funai is an assistant professor of political science and director of the Master of Public Administration program at Southern Utah University. She also serves as interim associate dean of the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. She holds degrees from Valdosta State University, Baylor University, and Stephen F. Austin State University.

Her research interests include experiential learning, virtual currency, tax policy, and philanthropy. Dr. Pool-Funai is a member of the American Society for Public Administration, American Political Science Association, and National Society for Experiential Education.

Prior to joining the SUU faculty, she worked with grants and research administration for 15+ years in the nonprofit sector and higher education. Dr. Pool-Funai is a geek at heart and enjoys volunteering with dark sky events as a Master Astronomer.

Darin Bird
Darin Bird

Darin Bird is currently serving as Deputy Director of the Utah Department of Natural Resources. Prior to this assignment, Bird served on the staff of U.S. Senator Robert Bennett as both Senior Policy Advisor for the House Natural Resources Committee and Special Assistant and Director of Constituent Services for Utah Governor Norman Bangerter.

Bird grew up in Cedar City and Santa Clara, Utah, graduating from Dixie College and Southern Utah University. In the community he has served or is currently as a member of Red Butte Garden Board of Advisors, This is the Place Heritage Park Board of Trustees/Sons of the Utah Pioneers Chapter Board, among others.

Bird is married to the former Lola Murray and he lives with his wife and daughter Lauren in Murray, Utah.

David Westwood
David Westwood

J. David Westwood is the owner of Westwood Law, P.C. Westwood formed Westwood Law, P.C. with the vision of providing superior legal services to the residents of southern Utah emphasizing on resolving disputes in an efficient and cost effective manner.

Born and raised in Cedar City, Westwood is excited to be working and living in this community. He is a graduate of Cedar High School and Southern Utah University. Westwood is actively involved in the local community and is currently serving in leadership positions in Cedar City’s Rotary Club and Southwest Technical College. When not practicing law, Westwood enjoys spending time coaching his children’s sports teams, fishing, golfing and watching football.

Don Marchant

Don Marchant was born and raised in Cedar City, Utah. He graduated from Cedar High School and Southern Utah State College (SUU) where he served as Student Body President. Marchant and Jacque, his wife of 48 years, raised their six children in Cedar City; three of whom currently live there.

Marchant is a former Cedar City Councilman. He served as Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, a member of the Iron County Tourism Board, President of the SUSC Alumni Association, and member of the SUSC Institution Council (Board of Trustees).

He served for 18 years as a member of the Board of Directors of the Utah State Fair Park. In addition, Marchant has been an adjunct instructor at SUU in both Communication and Business classes.

Evan Vickers
Evan Vickers

Senator Evan Vickers was born in Panguitch, Utah and raised in Beaver, Utah. He attended the University of Utah College of Pharmacy and graduated in 1977. He and his wife, Chris, have five children who have all worked in their four businesses in Cedar City, Utah.

Senator Vickers served on the Cedar City Council from 1987-1999. He currently serves on the Iron Mission Board and Valley View Medical Center Board.

He was elected to the Utah House of Representatives in 2009 and was elected to the Utah State Senate in 2012. He serves as Chairman of the Senate Health and Human Services Standing Committee, Co-Chair of the interim HHS committee, and also serves on the Transportation Interim Committee and Senate Natural Resources Committee.

Joan Bell
Joan Bell

Joan Bell is a Pharmaceutical and Biotech consultant in portfolio analysis and strategy. Before her consultant job, she retired as Global Head of the Program Office, Novartis, where she was responsible for multiple functions including Education and Diversity, Project Management, and Research and Development processes for small molecules and biologics.

Previous employers of Bell’s include Novartis, Genzyme, Wyeth, GelTex, and Genetics Institute. Bell graduated from Brandeis University with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. She currently lives in Dammeron Valley, Utah.

John Westwood
John Westwood

Representative John Westwood was born in Richfield, Utah and raised in Circleville, Utah. He attended Southern Utah State College from 1973-1977 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Finance. Representative Westwood completed his post graduate work at the Pacific Coast Banking School in Washington State.

Representative Westwood was elected into District 72 in 2012. He serves on many committees, including the House Transportation Committee, the Political Subdivisions Interim Committee, and the House Economics Development and Workforce Services Committee, among others.

He has lived in Cedar City for 38 years. He worked at State Bank of Southern Utah for 34 years, finishing his time after holding the position of CFO. He is married to Mary Ellen Schmutz Westwood, is the father of five children, and the grandfather of fifteen grandchildren.

Justin Harding
Justin Harding

Justin Harding is a senior executive with more than sixteen years of government service at the state and federal levels. Since June 2014, he has served as Chief of Staff to Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert, directing and overseeing the governor’s staff, cabinet members, and all 21,000 state employees. He also serves as a senior political advisor to the governor.

Prior to his current position, Harding lived in the Washington, D.C., area,where he worked for members of Utah's federal congressional delegation, including Representatives James V. Hansen, Rob Bishop and Jason Chaffetz.

Harding graduated with honors from Southern Utah University in political science and small-business management and entrepreneurship. Harding and his wife are the parents of six children and currently reside in Sandy, Utah.

Maile Wilson
Maile Wilson

Maile Wilson was born and raised in Cedar City, Utah. In 2013 she was elected as the first female and youngest Mayor in the history of Cedar City. Mayor Wilson is also working for the law firm of Jones Waldo.

She graduated from Southern Utah University with a bachelor’s of Political Science, followed by a master’s in Public Administration. Mayor Wilson then earned her Juris Doctorate from Charlotte School of Law.

Mayor Wilson has received numerous honors, including: being named one of top five women Most Influential Women in Southern Utah; 30 Women to Watch Utah Business Magazine; and Attorneys to Watch in 2017 Attorney at Law Magazine.

Michael S. Leavitt is currently an Agency Partner with Leavitt Group Enterprises, Inc., where he is responsible for overseeing agency operations in select agencies in multiple states. Prior to serving as an Agency Partner, Leavitt was Associate General Counsel in the Leavitt Group’s legal department. Prior to joining Leavitt Group Enterprises, Leavitt was a producer for Leavitt Insurance Agency in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Leavitt graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah in 2001. He earned his J.D. degree from the S.J. Quinney School of Law in 2005, and his MBA degree from Southern Utah University in 2010. Leavitt has served on various boards and committees, including the Utah State Athletic Commission and the National Advisory Board for Southern Utah University.

Scott L Wyatt is Southern Utah University’s 16th president. He spends most of his time supporting students, staff, and faculty, as they explore diverse ideas, create transformative learning experiences, and achieve high-quality outcomes.

Prior to his appointment as president, Wyatt served as president of Snow College, served as member of the Utah House of Representatives, was a partner in Daines, Wyatt & Jenkins, LLP, and served as the Cache County Attorney. He earned a J.D. from the University of Utah and a B.S. from Utah State University with a dual major in Philosophy and Economics.

Wyatt is married to Kathy; they have four children and three grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, nature photography, backpacking, climbing mountains, and supporting student events at the university.

Sean Stewart
Sean Stewart

Sean Stewart graduated from Southern Utah University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2001. He received his Juris Doctorate from Brigham Young University in 2003.

The following year he accepted a position at Aggregate Industries. For the next 7 years, he served as Vice President of the general counsel and Vice President of the regional counsel, where he was responsible for legal matters and employment issues in fifteen states.

In 2011, Stewart accepted his current position as CEO for the Nevada Contractors Association (NCA). The NCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and serving the construction industry, and ensuring the rights of its members. He represents and oversees operations including union and nonunion general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and affiliated firms.

Stacee McIff
Stacee McIff

Stacee McIff, Business Department chair at Snow College, has taught in the college’s Business program since 2006. Born and raised in Panguitch, Utah, McIff grew up working in the family-owned insurance business where she developed a love for free enterprise and entrepreneurship.

McIff graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern Utah University with a Bachelor of Science composition degree in Business Education/Business Information Systems, with an emphasis in Marketing. McIff is currently chair of the National FBLA-PBL Board of Directors. She serves on the Utah FBLA-PBL Board of Directors and has served on the NAtional Awards Program committee.

McIff and her husband, Mark, have two daughters and live in Richfield, Utah.

Stuart Jones

Stuart Jones is the Vice President for Advancement & Enrollment Management at Southern Utah University where he leads all enrollment, marketing and fundraising efforts. He has also served as Vice President for Advancement & Regional Services and Assistant to the President during his 20 year tenure at SUU.

Previously he has served as a Vice President at Sonoma State University and Dominican University, both in the North Bay Area of San Francisco. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Utah State University, and a Master of Public Administration and Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah. He began his legal career in St. George with the law firm of Jones Waldo. Stuart and his wife Michelle have six children and he enjoys politics, reading, golf, tennis, biking and hiking.
