Selwyn Layton

Selwyn Layton is an assistant professor in the Department of Nursing at Southern Utah University (SUU). He received his first baccalaureate degree from Southern Utah University where he majored in Business Management. He then went on to complete a second baccalaureate in nursing from Touro University-Nevada in Henderson, Nevada. He earned his Masters of Science in Nursing Administration with an Education Emphasis from Touro University-Nevada. Since then Selwyn has received a DNP from Capella University in Minneapolis Minnesota and a Family Nurse Practitioner Masters from Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor Michigan. He has past experience in education with teaching Basic Life Support (BLS) classes, Advanced Life Support (ACLS) classes, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) classes, IV certification classes, and Medical Assistant Courses. Selwyn has completed the BLS certification, American Heart Association BLS instructor certification, ACLS certification, American Heart Association ACLS instructor certification, PALS certification, American Heart Association PALS instructor certification, and Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC).

Selwyn brings expertise in Medical Surgical Nursing, Cardiovascular Nursing, Emergency Nursing, and Nursing Leadership. He remains current in clinical practice as an Emergency Nurse and House Supervisor at Cedar City Hospital in Cedar City, Utah. He has taught Care of Adults, Care of Adults Clinical, Pharmacology, High Acuity, High Acuity Clinical, Assessment for RN-BSN, and adjunct Aeromedical courses at SUU. He currently teaches Assessment for entry level BSN, Online Assessment for RN-BSN, Pediatrics, Pediatric Clinical, and is the co-instructor to the Nursing Capstone Clinical.
