Professor Donna Lister

Donna Lister weaves her experience in clinical nursing and nursing education into every lecture and one-on-one student interaction. As an associate professor and Chair of the Department of Nursing at Southern Utah University, Lister has grown the nursing program by 50 percent in the last two years and turns out 100 percent NCLEX-RN first-time pass rates for many graduating classes.

As an SUU alum, Dr. Bruce Howard shares his university pride and passion for chemistry daily with students. Teaching at SUU since 2002, Howard pushes students to think critically and develop analytical skills about chemistry, biology and the world around them.

Pre-Med Faculty Artis Grady

Professor Artis Grady

Artis Grady is an associate professor of human nutrition at Southern Utah University and has been a registered dietitian since 1976. Grady specializes in sports nutrition and food chemistry. She was named the 2017 Outstanding Dietitian of the Year by the Utah Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Known in Utah as the Award of Merit, this distinction recognizes a dietitian who leads and makes significant contributions to the dietetics field.

Pre-Med Alumni - Lee Pace

SUU to Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Lee Pace contributes his critical thinking skills to his time working with Professor Ty Redd in the chemistry department at SUU. Lee has since worked at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at USC’s Keck School of Medicine. He was an assistant team physician for the LA Galaxy soccer team, venue medical director for the 2015 World Special Olympics, and is now an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Pre-Med Alumni - Megan Freestone-Bernd

SUU to Pediatric Anesthesiology

Dr. Megan Freestone-Bernd participated in several research projects, network and shadow with area physicians, and worked with the Rural Health Scholars while at Southern Utah University. Since graduation, Megan went on to finish her medical education at the University of Utah and Pennsylvania State University. Megan specializes in pediatric anesthesiology, and now works as a licensed physician in Boise, Idaho.

Pre-Med Alumni - Crystal Sekaquaptewa

SUU to Monumental Dentistry

Crystal began her doctoral path at Southern Utah University in the hopes of becoming a dentist. On the day of graduation Crystal had an acceptance letter from Creighton University School of Dentistry in hand. Crystal had become the first SUU Native American student to be accepted into a professional school. After graduating from Creighton, the female doctor was once again a unique sight when she was hired at the Monument Valley Community Health Center as a dentist, becoming the first Native American woman to be hired within the Utah Navajo Health system.

Rural Health Scholars

Utah Rural Health Scholars Program

The Utah Rural Scholars (RHS) Program prepares students for admission to graduate healthcare programs. Through a series of academic and non-academic experiences, students increase their likelihood of being accepted into medical, dental, physical therapist, occupational therapist, physician assistant, nursing, podiatry, optometry, veterinary, healthcare administration and allied health schools.

Nursing Program

Nursing Degree Program

Southern Utah University’s Nursing Program has two tracks: RN to BSN and Pre-licensure. Students in both programs are taught in small classes by actively working nurses. The past seven classes of nursing graduates have achieved an impressive 97.3% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN national licensing test for RNs.
