This course in photography is designed to introduce participants to the fine art of photography, and is open for both art and non-art students in a fun, experiential, educational setting. General issues and techniques of both contemporary and historical uses of photography will be addressed with a focus on visual literacy. Students will also gain insight in the photographs used in popular culture, and the techniques used by professionals that make them effective.

Camera with manual settings recommended (DSLR, Rangefinder, mirrorless). Point-and-shoot will work.

Instructor Bio

Robert Curl

Robert Curl is currently an adjunct professor of visual arts at Southern Utah University. After earning his bachelor’s degree in fine arts from SUU, Curl went on to California State University-Chico and earned a Master’s of Fine Arts Degree. His art has been featured in many exhibits, both in Cedar City and California, and his passion is teaching students the techniques he learned to become successful in the field of photography.
