Southern Utah Speed Pitch

The Southern Utah Speed Pitch Competition, hereafter referred to as the “Competition”, will be held as part of this year’s Rural Summit, on the Southern Utah University campus. The Competition is intended to help identify and support high-potential early-stage businesses and business ideas. With $10,000 in cash prizes plus additional awards, all entrepreneurs who meet the criteria are encouraged to consider entering the competition to have their idea heard and evaluated.

Timeline Summary

  • Video application deadline: Wednesday September 30th at midnight
  • Notification of advancement in the competition: Friday October 2nd by midnight
  • Round 1: October 5th at 5:00PM in BUS 120
    • Approximately 25 selected contestants
    • 90 second pitch, approximately 60 seconds for Q & A
  • Round 2: October 6th at 12:30 in SUU Ballroom
    • Approximately 7 selected contestants
    • 90 second pitch, approximately 3 minutes of Q & A

Rules and Requirements

    1. The business must not have earned more than $100,000 in revenue during the previous year (2019).
    2. This Competition is open to legal residents of Iron, Beaver, Garfield, Juab, Millard, Sanpete, Piute, Wayne, Sevier and Kane Counties and all SUU, Southwest Tech and Snow College Students
    3. Applicants must be available for Round 1 (semifinals) on October 5th @ 5pm and Round 2 (finals) on October 6th @ 12:30-2 PM
    4. The following are not eligible: judging and contest agencies involved in the administration, development, fulfillment and execution of this contest, including their immediate family members.
    5. Entries must be submitted by Midnight, Wednesday, September 30.
    6. Applicants may enter individually or in groups, but only one entry per person. No person may participate in the presentation of more than one idea.
    7. Entries must describe a legitimate invention or business that may be lawfully operated in the United States. Entries must be the original work of the entrant, must not infringe any third-party rights, and may not in any other way violate applicable laws and regulations.
    8. Proprietary concepts and intellectual property may be protected by a provisional patent or copyright, should the contestant desire. Contestants in this contest will not be penalized for withholding key concepts or intellectual property associated with their business idea.
