SUU STEM Leadership Board

The SUU STEM Leadership Board focuses on organizing, staffing, and overseeing STEM Center events and programs for K-12 students in southern Utah, including the STEM Tutoring Centers. These events are designed to promote fun, exploration, education and expression in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) for all students who participate. STEM Center events help recruit students to SUU STEM programs and majors within the Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Science and Engineering. The STEM Leadership Board provides many opportunities of growth for SUU students. It is a student-led board that encourages its team to implement their unique skills to further and build their own resumes and expand the outreach of the organization. The STEM Leadership Board is made up of students from a wide variety of majors. You do not have to be a science or engineering student to be part of this leadership organization; in fact, we are for a very diverse group of students for a variety of jobs including marketing, education, and management. The STEM Leadership Board is a close-knit student organization that works closely with the SUU STEM Center staff and Academic Enhancement Coordinator for the Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Science and Engineering.

We are so excited you're interested in joining the STEM Squad here at SUU! We have a year filled with fun, responsibility, creativity, and hard work planned for you. Not only will you be helping us out, but we will be filling your time with useful, pertinent, and powerful resume-building skills.

STEM Squad students will work an average of 10 hours per week. In addition to doing their specific job duties, they will assist in STEM outreach events hosted by SUU, schools, or the community, STEM tutoring, assisting other STEM Squad members, and work closely as a team. The STEM Squad positions work as AmeriCorps volunteers, unless otherwise noted. Students in these positions receive a bi-weekly living allowance as well as an educational award at the end of the school year and must contribute a total of 300 hours. Positions NOT under AmeriCorps will be paid as student hourly positions.

Job Description

Organize, contact, coordinate and manage all volunteers for STEM events on campus, as well as off campus at schools and in the community. Assist with event management in terms of finances, food orders, and other needs. Organize and maintain the STEM Center calendar and email account. Create and distribute a STEM Center Newsletter. Additionally, all leadership board members will be required to tutor K-12 students 3-5 hours a week, assist with all major STEM Center events, and perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualification

Detail oriented, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace, experience in editing a plus, good communication skills.

Job Description

Plan, communicate, market, oversee, and manage all event details, and personnel for STEM Nights, K-12 field trips, and Wonder Wednesdays. Additionally, all leadership board members will be required to tutor K-12 students 3-5 hours a week, assist with all major STEM Center events, and perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualification

Detail oriented, event management experience a plus, good communication skills.

Job Description

Oversee, coordinate, market, and manage all online STEM tutoring. This student works with tutors, volunteers, K-12 students and parents, teachers, and school administrators to create an environment that is welcoming and helpful for science and math tutoring; this will include an online environment, as most of our tutoring has moved online. Lead Tutor will be required to assist with tutoring questions or concerns. Additionally, all leadership board members will be required to assist with all major STEM Center events and perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualification

Experience tutoring in STEM subjects, proficient in Google Workspace, good communication skills.

Job Description

This student works with tutors, volunteers, high school students and parents, teachers, and school administrators to create an environment that is welcoming and helpful for science and math tutoring. Lead Tutor will be required to assist with tutoring questions or concerns. Additionally, all leadership board members will be required to assist with all major STEM Center events and perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualification

Experience tutoring in STEM subjects, proficient in Google Workspace, good communication skills.

Job Description

Oversee, market, coordinate, distribute, and develop educational materials owned and used by the STEM Center, including lesson plans and the STEM Library. This person will assist with professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers. Assist STEM Outreach Events Team with Wonder Wednesdays in conjunction with the Southern Utah Museum of Art. Additionally, all leadership board members will be required to tutor K-12 students 3-5 hours a week, assist with all major STEM Center events, and perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualification

Experience creating K-12 lesson plans a plus, good communication skills.

Job Description

Design and create STEM Center video content for our YouTube channel, including working with faculty to record STEM lessons and equipment demonstrations. Get photo and video coverage at all STEM Center events. Additionally, all leadership board members will be required to assist with all major STEM Center events, and perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualification

Photography and videography experience, editing experience and capabilities, good communication skills.

Job Description

Oversee all STEM Center marketing on social media platforms including FaceBook, Instagram, and YouTube. This position will also help maintain and update our website with current events and programs. Design and distribute flyers and signage for all STEM Center events. Additionally, all leadership board members will be required to assist with all major STEM Center events, and perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualification

Graphic design experience, social media and marketing experience preferred, good communication skills.

Job Description

Plan, organize and manage all FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) workshops, scrimmages, build days, and competitions. Communicate with and respond to inquiries from teachers, FTC coaches, parents, state and national personnel, and others associated with FTC in a professional and timely manner. Coordinate use of FTC field equipment with teams and qualifiers. Act as liaison between STEM Center and local FTC teams in arranging outreach coverage. Additionally, all leadership board members will be required to tutor K-12 students 3-5 hours a week, assist with all major STEM Center events, and perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualification

Detail oriented, FIRST experience a plus, event management experience a plus, good communication skills.

Job Description

Organize, advertise, and manage the E&T and CSIS retention/recruitment programs. Responsibilities include collaborating with Academic Enhancement Coordinator (AEC) on internship opportunities for related majors, communicating information and responding to inquiries from industry in a timely manner, assist clubs with SUUSA funding and membership, preparing for major/industry banquets, preparing recruitment materials for events for middle school and high school students. Events include (but are not limited to) Tech Fair in a Box and FTC State Championship. Communicate with and respond to inquiries from teachers, coaches, parents, and others in a timely manner. Additionally, all leadership board members will be required to tutor K-12 students 3-5 hours a week, assist with all major STEM Center events, and perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualification

Detail oriented, good communication skills, ENT or CSIS major a plus.
