K-12 Tours

SUMA is designed to serve as a model laboratory for educational programming, public school outreach and empirical evaluation of the visitor experience. The SUMA classroom is dedicated to educational programs in service to the museum, its mission and activities.


Kindergarten-5th Grade Tours

Tours will open on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023 and will be available through February 23rd 2024. For this tour season, we will be deriving inspiration from, and diving deeper into our exhibition Brutal D.C.: A Survey of Past, Present, and Future, Brutalist Architecture in the Nation’s Capital.

Tour slots are organized and scheduled for two groups or classes. The complete tour is two hours long and includes one hour with SUMA and one hour with one of our partners: SUU STEM Center, the Garth & Jerri Frehner Museum of Natural History, and/or the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Students will participate in educational tours, lessons, and fun activities as part of their visit.

All available dates and times are on the appointment calendar, as well as information about which partner is available for each tour. 

Partner is determined by the day of the week, as follows: 

Monday/Wednesday—STEM Center
Tuesday/Thursday—Frehner Museum of Natural History
Friday—Utah Shakespeare Festival

Grades 6-12 Tours

Tours for the 6-12 grade levels will be open on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 and be available through February 23, 2024. For this tour season, we will be deriving inspiration from, and diving deeper into our exhibition Brutal D.C.: A Survey of Past, Present, and Future, Brutalist Architecture in the Nation’s Capital.

Please email us at experiencesuma@suu.edu to request a tour for your students. With three weeks advance notice, we can adapt our tour to your classes' objectives and goals, including connections to non-art subjects. For suggestions of ways to connect current exhibitions to your subject area, please email experiencesuma@suu.edu
