Tayson Whittaker - Outdoor Vitals

Tayson is the founder and president of Outdoor Vitals, an outdoor equipment company based out of Cedar City, UT. He founded his company right after graduating from college with a degree in finance and $500 to invest. The goal was to empower and aid customers & followers to enjoy the outdoors by creating a new generation ultralight backpacking company. Since the company's start in 2014, it has grown to be a multi-million dollar success with tens of thousands of followers. Through this journey, Tayson has worn every hat in the business from designer, marketer and CFO, down to inventory management and customer support. He is now building out a team to have a greater impact and free up more of his time to spend with his beautiful wife and children.

Jordan Makin - Dry Bar Comedy

Jordan Makin is a stand-up comedian and ginger-haired man. He overcame his red hair and uneventful childhood by learning the art of funny. He has worked with many comedy greats, such as Marc Maron, Ryan Hamilton, and Ron Funches. His comedy has been featured across the country at the North Hollywood Comedy Festival, 2018 Devil Cup in New York City, and Golden Spike Comedy Festival where he was named "Best of Fest". Jordan and his wife, Adrienne, host the weekly "My Wife Thinks" podcast. His first comedy special, "The BFFG" is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.

Southern Utah Speed Pitch

Speed Pitch

The Speed Pitch competition will be held as part of this year’s Rural Summit. The competition is intended to help identify and support high-potential early-stage businesses and business ideas. All entrepreneurs who meet the rules are encouraged to consider entering the competition to have their idea heard and evaluated. Initial Judging of entries will occur in a breakout session on September 3 at 2:00 pm, with final judging in a combined, general session of the Summit on Sept 4 at 9:00 am. The Governor of the great state of Utah, among others, will be part of the final judging panel.

1:30 PM Governor's Rural Partnership Meeting

The Governor's Rural Partnership Board (GRPB) is a statewide board designed to advise the governor on rural economic development issues. The board includes the Lieutenant Governor, industry experts, business people, state agency representatives, and higher education officials. The board seeks input, studies the challenges and opportunities facing rural Utah, and advocates for local, regional, and statewide needs.
