Veteran Scholarships

SVA Scholarships

The National SVA is Offering $110,000 in Scholarships in Spring 2016.

Every student veteran across the country currently enrolled in a four-year institution is eligible for at least one of the scholarships being offered.

Raytheon Patriot Scholarship

Two U.S. Army veterans pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited four-year institution will each be awarded a $10,000 scholarship.

The Raytheon SVA Scholarship

Five student veterans pursuing a STEM degree will each be awarded a $10,000 scholarship.

The Accenture SVA Scholarship

Four student veterans enrolled in a four-year institution will each be awarded a $10,000 scholarship.

All scholarship applications close at 11:59 pm EDT on April 4.

The Boundless Opportunity Scholarship (BOS)

The Boundless Opportunity Scholarship (BOS) is designed to benefit highly-motivated non-traditional students who recognize the power of education to create a better life for themselves and their families. Contact Financial Aid for more details.

Low VA Rates Scholarship

Low VA Rates offer an annual $2,500 college scholarship to one deserving military student. Semiannual payments of $1,250 are given during the fall and winter semesters. Any current college students in the military may apply for this scholarship, with no age requirements. Young people with a mother or father serving in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces are also eligible.

All applications for the 2017 Winter semester must be submitted by 12:00 am on January 1, 2017.

Military Scholarships for College

Scott Pitchford Veteran Scholarship

The purpose of the Scott Pitchford Scholarship Award is to provide a postsecondary education scholarship award to veterans who attend SUU, pursuing an AA/AS or a BA/BS. One undergraduate scholarship award is available in the amount up to $1,500.

NAVPA 2017 Scholarship

The purpose of the NAVPA National Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance to veteran, service member and dependent students who are pursuing undergraduate, graduate and alternative certification at NAVPA member institutions, in the amount of $500 for each NAVPA region, eight regions total.

Utah Tuition Gap Funding Program (VetGap)

The State of Utah provides funds for tuition during the last full year of school IF you meet the following requirements:

  • Resident of Utah
  • Admitted to SUU
  • Showing Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
  • No previous degrees
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree
  • Chapter 33 eligible, that have been exhausted
  • 3 semesters or fewer left to graduation

Active Duty Tuition Assistance

Tuition Assistance is not a program that is run through the Department of Veterans Affairs. Each military Service/Branch has a separate process for using their Tuition Assistance program. To use Tuition Assistance, please speak with your command/unit's Education Services Officer and work directly with the Veterans Center to ensure completion of funding.

UTNG Federal & State Tuition Assistance and State Tuition Waiver Program

Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA)

  • FTA available to all members of the US Army
  • Members become eligible one (1) year after completion of AIT
  • Contracted Cadets do NOT receive FTA (must use STA)
  • $4,000 yearly cap
  • 16 semester hour cap
  • $250/credit hour cap
  • Must register on
  • Apply through

State Tuition Assistance (STA)

  • Must use FTA (if eligible) before using STA
  • STA available to all eligible members of the UTNG
  • $5,000 yearly cap (combined FTA and STA)
  • $250/credit hour cap
  • Pays for 1st Associates, 1st Bachelors, and 1st Masters
  • Application requires SOU and tuition statement
  • Application can be submitted 90 days prior to start of classes

State Tuition Waiver Program

  • Available only for 1st Bachelors
  • Must NOT be on ADOS or AGR Orders
  • Pays full tuition for Fall and Spring semesters
  • Application period 1 January – 30 April
  • Application requires transcripts and an essay
  • Application does NOT guarantee receipt of waiver
