Showing School Pride T-Birds Wear Red on Fridays

It’s more than school colors and face paint. Red defines us and unites us to live and celebrate together. Thunderbird Red Out is more than a tradition, it is who we are. We choose red, we choose pride, we choose Southern Utah University.

Here at SUU, wearing red every Friday shows our pride and passion for the University. It is our visual identity.

Adding even more excitement to this celebrated tradition is a chance to be featured on the University’s home page sporting your SUU gear. Snap a picture of yourself, your friends, your professor or your kids, post it on your favorite social media site using #SUURedOut. One winner is selected each week, highlighted on www.suu.edu, and will receive one of kind SUU memorabilia.

So beginning this Friday, August 30, don a red shirt, pants, shoes, socks or jacket. But don’t stop there. Snap a picture of your SUU swag and post the photo to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using #SUURedOut.

But this isn’t a once a year kind of thing, this happens every week.

That’s right, every Friday is a Red Out, a day to show your Thunderbird pride and make campus a more spirited environment. But this isn’t the only incentive being offered for wearing red on Fridays.

Red Outs are enthusiastically supported by students, departments, vendors, faculty and staff across campus. Just wait; you could receive major deals for modeling a red shirt this Friday.

On top of a sea of red weekly rushing over campus, Cedar City is painting itself red in the inaugural Paint the Town Red fair. Taking Welcome Week to the streets, Paint the Town Red will take place Thursday, August 29 from 5-9 p.m. shutting down Main Street between 200 North and Center Street.

A family friendly event with vendors and activities for all ages, Paint the Town Red will literally paint Cedar City red. Local businesses will take to the streets with their wares and offer deals, especially to those wearing red.

The culminating event with Paint the Town Red will be a concert by Radical Something. A Los Angeles based band that is family friendly. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Main Street.

You can also add a splash a red by coloring the sidewalk and putting your print on a mural located between Centro Pizza and Pastry Pub on Center Street. If you place a handprint on the mural and wear red, you’ll be given two entries into a drawing for a large giveaway from local Cedar City businesses.

Thunderbird Red Out is part of an ongoing initiative at Southern Utah University to encourage the campus community and those all around Cedar City to wear red on Fridays and show support for Utah’s top-tier University.

If you need to enhance your wardrobe of red garments, visit SUU Bookstore for official Thunderbird merchandise and clothing.
