SUU Changes Visitor Parking Policies

Southern Utah University has announced a change to its visitor parking policy, vehicles with SUU license plates now required to park in visitor or open lots.

Those with SUU license plates will now be allowed to park in visitor parking lots designated with yellow signs at each entrance. Previously, plate holders were able to park in any unrestricted lot on SUU’s campus.

This change comes as part of a series of updates to SUU’s parking system, including raising the price of parking permits for students. Emilee Ballard, Supervisor of Parking Services, explains: “Money collected from parking permits will help off-set the operation and maintenance costs associated with parking. It will allow the University to focus on its academic mission.”

Ballard also emphasizes the University’s gratitude for plate holders’ contributions. “T-Bird plates show school pride and support student scholarships… For showing their support of the University, T-Bird license plate holders may purchase a parking permit at half price and receive the benefit of parking in any lot on campus.”

In order to help visitors and students alike identify the lots in which they can park, SUU is simplifying its parking system.  Signs posted at the entrance of each parking area will now emphasize color codes.

Red or blue will identify student or faculty/staff parking respectively. Green will indicate open parking, which is available to all vehicles with or without permit. Yellow will designate lots available to those with visitor permits or SUU license plates.

Visitors without a license plate or permit are encouraged to park in metered stalls located in central parking areas or in green “open” lots.
