Southern Utah University will host TEDxSUU on Tuesday, February 20 at 7 p.m. The event will be held in the Great Hall of the Hunter Alumni Center. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students.

“TEDxSUU invites the audience to visit new and familiar ideas and to think beyond their current agenda,” said Melissa Funk, TEDxSUU executive committee member and director of the Speech and Presentation Center at SUU. “I look forward to the variety of topics and the enthusiasm of each speaker. Plus, the ideas we leave with stay with us and we can pursue new avenues of interest.”

Following the TEDx mission to “discover and spread ideas that spark imagination, embrace possibility and catalyze impact” the committee has chosen “Transcendence” as the theme for this year’s event, and five speakers were chosen to share experiences that have produced results that exceeded expectations.

The following speakers and presentations were selected:

  • Holly Biesinger: Finding Belonging Through Family History
  • Brenna Horton: Mental Illness and Self-Efficacy
  • Bret Nelson: Empathy
  • Laura Walker: Transcendence Through Heartache
  • David Hatch: Interdisciplinary Thinking and the Educated Person

At a TEDx event, speakers give presentations called TED talks and work together to spark inspiration, deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x represents an independently organized TED event. Learn more about TEDxSUU.
