Athletic Training

The Athletic Training Major is designed for those seeking a career as a Certified Athletic Trainer, and qualifies students to take the certification exam administered by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification. A student in athletic training will learn to apply knowledge of human anatomy, human physiology, exercise physiology, Sport & Exercise Biomechanics, conditioning, strength training, nutrition and therapy in the prevention, evaluation, recognition, immediate care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.

AVAILABLE RESOURCES

SUU’s J.L. Sorenson Physical Education Building is one of the finest facilities of its type in the western United States. It houses a 50-meter Olympic-sized swimming pool, a fitness center, three basketball courts, an indoor track, a climbing wall, five racquetball courts, five “smart” classrooms and several specialized labs.

STUDENT INVOLVEMENT

SUU’s athletic training program partners with Thunderbird Athletics to give students hands-on experience working with collegiate level athletes.
Ninety percent of the 2009 graduating class are working in the profession of Athletic Training or pursuing additional education.
