Physical Education Teaching/Coaching Emphasis
The Physical Education and Human Performance degree with an
emphasis in Teaching/Coaching is a certifiable major and minor
approved for secondary teaching licensure at SUU. This emphasis is
intended to provide students who wish to pursue teaching careers with
the necessary knowledge, experience and training to become effective
and competent teachers and coaches.

- Historically, 40 percent of the coaches playing for state championships each year in Utah are SUU graduates
- SUU is known as “The Coaching Factory” for both the number of students who graduate to become coaches and for the consistently high quality of the coaches who are SUU alumni
- During the 2007-2008 school year, SUU alumni competed for 30 Utah State athletic championships and six collegiate championships

AVAILABLE RESOURCES
The Sorenson Physical Education Building is one of the finest facilities of its type
in the western United States. It houses a 50-meter Olympic-sized swimming pool,
a fitness center, three basketball courts, an indoor track, a climbing wall, five
racquetball courts, five “smart” classrooms, and several specialized labs.
STUDENT INVOLVEMENT
- Students have opportunities developing lesson plans, practicing teaching
techniques and organizing sporting events while participating in class work,
intramurals, and student teaching.
