The Secondary Education program is based on a thorough preparation in the liberal arts and sciences, professional studies, and in specialty courses--all of which form a dynamic collaboration that combines theory and practice, content and skill. The program provides opportunities for the prospective teacher to become effective in the classroom, meeting the demands of a challenging and changing educational environment and satisfying state licensure requirements. The program is seen as a community where students and teachers apply theoretical concepts, practice strategies, and develop teaching approaches.

Secondary Licensure

Interested students are required to complete a Composite Teaching Major or an Academic Teaching Major in one or more of the University’s academic colleges. In addition, a minimum of 37-40 semester hours, including Academic Methods and Student Teaching course, of professional education course work must be completed in the Department of Teacher Education and Human Development.

Utah licensed 6-12 Grade Teacher, work as Teacher Assistant in schools

The College resides in a state-of-the-art Education Building and operates labs for hands-on experience. A Media Center with high-tech equipment is available for students and faculty to create innovative projects and learning opportunities.
