Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

The GIS program is a 1-2 year certificate program. The strength of SUU’s GIS program relies on the interdisciplinary nature of spatial technologies which supplements a variety of professional fields. Biology, history, political science, business, engineering technology, anthropology and archeology, among many others, are areas of campus where GIS students have applied their skills.

POSSIBLE CAREERS

There is a common misconception that the job possibilities for geographers are limited to either teachers/professors or cartographers. In reality, geographers hold a wide range of jobs, from government analyst, transportation planner, urban planner, tourism planner, forest ranger and park ranger to travel agent, airline pilot, journalist, meteorologist, climatologist, and many more, including military positions both enlisted and civilian.
