Graduate Checklist

  • Complete the application for graduation within the mySUU Portal. A $50 late fee will be applied to all late applicants. A $15 diploma fee is applied to ALL graduates; it is increased to $65 if applications are received past deadlines.

  • February 2016:
    Order your cap and gown.
    Purchase graduation announcements.
    Make hotel reservations for out-of-town guests.
  • March 2016:
    Pay for your cap and gown (required for participation in graduation and convocation ceremonies). Master's degree grads: your gown and hood differ from that of undergraduates; ensure you indicate you’re a graduate student when you order and pay for regalia.
  • March 15, 2016: You will not graduate as a Fall 2015, Spring 2016 or Summer 2016 graduate if you do NOT apply for graduation by this date. This is also the last day to have your name printed in the commencement program and participate in the Spring 2016 Ceremonies.
  • March 19, 2016: Submit draft of speech to be the 2015 Commencement student speaker.
  • April 2016:
    Complete the 2016 Grad Survey through the mySUU portal. The 2016 survey is now offline. Contact SUU's Career & Professional Development Office or call 435-865-8677 if you need access.
    Complete the ADA request form for all graduates & guests who will require special ADA accommodations Graduation weekend.
  • April 30, 2016: Pick up your cap and gown at the Grad Fair at the Alumni House between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. (Students graduating with honors: Be sure to pick up your medallions during the Grad Fair from the Office of the VP of Student Activities table.)

Instructions for all Graduates

  • All fees (diploma fee and cap & gown fee) must be paid and your graduation survey completed before your transcript or diploma is released.
  • Caps and gowns are required for all graduates to participate in both the university and individual college ceremonies.
  • SUU does not hold a rehearsal for graduation ceremonies.
  • Please arrive to the graduate line-up one hour early, in graduation regalia, for both the University Commencement Ceremony and your college convocation to receive special instructions. See detailed map for line-up locations.
  • Graduates who have spouses or immediate family graduating in different colleges may request to have their degrees awarded in the same college. Please call the Registrar's Office (435-586-7715) to make arrangements.
  • In case of inclement weather, line-up will be in the Sharwan Smith Student Center.
  • A professional photographer from Island Photography will be taking photographs of each graduate as they are recognized at the college convocations. Within 48 hours after your college convocation, you will be emailed a secure link and a PIN to view and order your photos.
