Summer is in full swing, though it may not feel like it under the present circumstances. If you’re missing being on Southern Utah University’s campus, try getting crafty with this summer-y, SUU-inspired DIY doormat. These doormats will add some SUU school spirit to any outdoor space.

Materials:

  • Doormat (you can either revamp your own, or purchase an inexpensive one from Ikea, Target, etc.)
  • Paint(s) and paintbrush
  • Sponge (method #2)
  • Stencil (method #3)
  • Tape (method #3)

Method #1: Paint

  1. Paint a design on your doormat
  2. Let the paint dry overnight

Method #2: Stamp

  1. Cut your sponge into a shape of your choosing (triangle for a watermelon, circle for a sun, etc.)
  2. Apply paint to one side of your sponge
  3. Using your sponge as a stamp, stamp your doormat in a pattern of your choosing
  4. Let the paint dry overnight

Method #3: Stencil

  1. Select a stencil, or print a design to cut out a stencil
  2. Place the stencil on your doormat, and secure it with tape
  3. Paint within your stencil
  4. Let the paint dry overnight

Ways to spice it up-SUU style:

  • Use SUU colors
  • Cut your sponges into an “S” and a “U” to stamp “SUU” on your doormat
  • Print an SUU-inspired stencil
