Into the Woods

January 20 & 21, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. and January 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.

SUU Department of Theatre, Dance, and Arts Administration’s production of Into the Woods returns to the stage for a second run. Into the Woods is a musical written by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine that combines several of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales and the outcome of what the characters’ choices bring to their stories, set in the Randall L. Jones Theatre on January 20 & 21, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on January 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for alumni with card, and $7 for youth. Audience members are given $2 off per ticket with the donation of a canned good to support the Iron County Care and Share. SUU faculty/staff (and one guest) and students can attend for free with a valid ID card. Tickets can be purchased at the America First Event Center Box Office, at the door the night of the performance, or online at www.suu.edu/arts.

Satellite Salon Series Inside Worlds

January 22, 2022

Southern Utah University’s Department of Music will host their second Satellite Salon Series concert of the 2021-2022 season titled, Inside Worlds, on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall at the SUU Music Building. Along with Dr. Lynn Vartan playing percussion, this concert will feature violinist Shalini Vijayan who is a member of the Lyris Quartet, the founding resident ensemble of the Hear Now Music Festival in Los Angeles. This concert is free and open to the public. 

Dr. Vartan, Director of Percussion at SUU, shares, “There is a special beauty and closeness when you play with someone you have known and collaborated with for over ten years! Shalini was our first Satellite Salon guest ever back in 2009, and our friendship and time as musicians together goes back even before that. She is such an artist, with a career and character to match. I can’t wait to be on stage with her again!”

Dr. Donna Fairbanks and Dr. Hsiang Tu Guest Artists Concerts

February 1 & 2, 2022

Southern Utah University’s Department of Music welcomes guest artists Dr. Donna Fairbanks, violinist, and Dr. Hsiang Tu, pianist, to the Thorley Recital Hall stage on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 and Wednesday, February 2, 2022 with both performances held at 7:30 p.m. The concert on February 1 will include Dr. Fairbanks and Dr. Tu while the concert on February 2 will be a solo concert by Dr. Tu. These performances are free and open to the public.

Tuesday night’s performance will include music composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Paul Hindemith, Fritz Kreisler, and César Franck. Wednesday night’s performance will include music composed by Louis-Claude Daquin, François Couperin, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Arlene Elizabeth Sierra, and Frédéric Chopin.
