The SUU Department of Art and Design will feature Richard Hardin, a sculptor who resides in Springdale, Utah in this weeks Art Insights presentation. Hardin will present, “Mistakes for Artists to Avoid,” Thursday, February 8th at 7 p.m. in the J.L. Sorenson Physical Education Building, room 101.

Richard Hardin is originally from Los Angeles and came to southern Utah to study art at Southern Utah State College. He fell in love with the area and settled in Springdale after graduation where he has been producing his artwork ever since.

Richard’s work is realistic and usually depicts simplified human or animal figures. His work is carved from wood and often painted with vibrant colors. His work utilizes the natural textures from the grain of the wood to create his unique style. His pieces encompass a vast range of subject matter from cartoon-like figures to religiously charged images.

His work has recently been exhibited at the Worthington Gallery in Springdale, Utah and in the Religious and Spiritual Exhibition at the Springville Museum of Art in Springville, Utah.

Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the Fall and Spring semesters by the Art and Design faculty. Art Insights brings professionals from many different fields of the visual art world to Cedar City. Admission is free, and the general public is invited to attend.
