According to Pete Heilgiest, director of purchasing and the head of the recycling program at SUU, the success of the first drive is the driving force behind this second effort. Heilgeist urges Cedar City and Enoch residents to continue to use this service, stating, “We want to continue to extend this service to the community as long as there is support for it.”
SUU’s Recycling Coordinator Tim Gray wants to make the cardboard drive a monthly activity. “Since there is no way for the residents to recycle their cardboard, and since we had a good turnout last month, I think that we can make this a monthly drive for the community. Who knows if it really picks up, and it becomes clear the community needs this service, perhaps we can even turn it into a bi-monthly event.”
As the cardboard drive continues to increase in popularity, both Heilgeist and Gray ask that residents only bring their cardboard between the hours of the drive, and to ensure all cardboard is broken down in advance if at all possible. This will help keep the parking lot clean, ensuring this service can continue.
