The Convocations Lecture Series at Southern Utah University is pleased to announce it Fall Semester lineup of speakers and presenters. The theme of Convocations is “A Feast of Ideas” and what a feast it is this semester! On tap is an entertaining, exciting, and thought provoking lineup. Topics explored will include music production in Walt Disney films, storytelling as an enhancement to children's literacy, the war in Iraq, human rights, mentoring, object theatre, and even a first-person biographical examination of George Washington that illuminates one of our exemplary founding fathers in a remarkably positive light.

Dr. Jeff Elison will deliver this year's Distinguished Faculty Lecture called "The Self Under Siege: Coping with Shame, Guilt, and Humiliation." He will make recommendations relevant to parents, teachers, and students on how to practice and teach effective coping skills using illustrations from recent movies.

SUU's International Week this year will focus on Central America and Convocations is pleased to participate by inviting human rights activist and peasant leader Elvia Alvarado from Honduras.

All Convocations are free and open to the public. Most presentations will feature a question and answer session with the presenter. Often books and CDs from the presenters will be available for sale and autographs. We are also pleased to note that this semester two presenters, Lydia Paweski and Judge Andrew Valdez, will be donating proceeds from their CD and books sales to SUU's Service and Learning Center.
