SUU to Host State FFA Competition Tuesday (2008)September 25, 2008
More than 400 high school students in gold crest emblazoned blue blazers will converge upon SUU’s campus to participate in the statewide FFA High School Competition next Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. through noon.
The University’s Agriculture Department and SUU’s Block and Bridle Club will host a total of four events throughout the day, including land, livestock, horse and range judging. All four competitions will be held in the Diamond Z Indoor Arena at the Cross Hollow Event Center.
This competition is one of many different state FFA events SUU hosts on an annual basis.
Next week, roughly 20-30 University students – mainly from the Block and Bridle Club – will help coordinate the four competitions. These students work as volunteers, helping with everything from serving as group leaders to tabulating participant scores. In addition, faculty and staff members from SUU’s agriculture science department will help set up and run the contests.
According to its website, “The National FFA Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.”
