SUU graduate student J.R. Briscoe from St. Louis, MO, is the latest T-Bird to win a prize for his submission to the University's Experience More Video and Billboard Contest. Briscoe was awarded $500 during the half-time show of last week's Men's Basketball game in the Centrum, where his billboard was displayed on the big screen.
Briscoe’s winning submission, “Experience More at SUU,” exemplifies the University’s new Experience More tagline, adopted at the beginning of the 2012-13 school year.
Vice President of University Relations Dean O’Driscoll stated, “I liked the simplicity of the design and composition of the billboard. When it comes to billboard design, simpler is often the better choice.”
Briscoe's winning billboard is the latest in a string of winning submissions in the Experience More Video and Billboard Contest, which will run through the end of the spring semester. His is also just the second big winner in the contest. Previous big winners Dallan Wright and Parker Warbeck received $500 for their video submission in early February, an entertaining and humorous commercial. According to O'Driscoll, their video helped entice other students and faculty to get involved and share their SUU experiences through contest submissions.
Of his recent recognition and, in part, as explanation for his billboard design, Briscoe said, “I have had so many opportunities while a student here and this was my chance to show others how amazing SUU is.”
All SUU students, faculty, staff and alumni are welcome to submit their own ideas to interpret and help market “Experience More” as it relates to Southern Utah University. Video submissions should be no longer than two minutes; billboard submissions should be 14x48. The contest will continue throughout the spring semester, with prizes awarded monthly.
