Campus Offers Students Child Care Assistance this Fall Semester

Southern Utah University students with families may be eligible to receive child care assistance from the Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant while attending classes this coming fall semester 2013.
Funding is allocated on a case-by-case basis and makes it easier for this group of SUU’s population to enjoy academic success and persist toward degree completion.
During the first four years of funding, SUU has retained 78 percent of CCAMPIS parents according to Lynne Brown, grant writer and director of the Student Support Center. She added, “The purpose of this grant is to keep parents enrolled in school and give them the support needed to succeed. 98 percent of our CCAMPIS students remained in good academic standing once admitted and 54 percent graduated within six years.”
Eligibility for participation is based a grant application students must complete as well as the state of Utah's 980 tax form, a child care subsidy worksheet that indicates the number of child care hours needed as well as an estimate of child care expenses for the fall months.
The amount of daycare assistance awarded is based on a sliding scale, which takes into account the parents’ adjusted gross income, the number of credits for which they are enrolled and whether or not both parents are students. The maximum award per family is $250 per month. All items must be submitted by Friday, October 11.
Applications are available online, as well as in SUU’s Center for Women and Families in room 175 of the Sharwan Smith Student Center.
SUU first secured CCAMPIS grant funding in 2009. Funding is now available year round for SUU's student-parent population. For fall 2013 the University was awarded $139,129 grant.
