English Language Endorsement for Nevada Educators

ELAD EndorsementSouthern Utah University will be hosting a booth at the Nevada Veterans and Spouses Career Fair, hosted by the Clark County School District and Troops to Education to promote the English Language Acquisition Development (ELAD) endorsement, the recently Nevada Department of Education approved Nevada Alternate Route to Licensure  (ARL) graduate certificate program, and other certificates offered through SUU’s Nevada Graduate Programs. The career fair is aimed to hire positions such as teachers, classroom aides, custodians and bus drivers.

According to a press release from Clark County School District:

“Urban school districts are collaborating to find new sources of teachers and education-related support staff, while providing opportunities for veterans and their spouses to continue serving in their communities.”

SUU’s 12-credit English Language Acquisition Development (ELAD) endorsement is offered fully online and is aligned with Nevada Administrative Code requirements. The ELAD endorsement is for those specializing in the instruction of English as a second language.

Courses are 6 weeks in duration with a tuition of $195 per credit. To receive an ELAD endorsement, students must already hold a teaching license, have completed the required courses, and complete at least 25 hours of experience working in the classroom.

For SUU’s ARL for Nevada Teachers graduate certificate, students study entirely online – with exception of the experiential five-week mentoring and monitoring component – on their journey to become full-time licensed teachers in the state of Nevada.  Through a five-semester program offering seven 15-week online courses, SUU is offering a fully-accredited ARL program.

Ronald A. Coleman, Lt. Col, USAF (ret), a Senior Aerospace Science Instructor with Clark County School District’s Air Force JROTC at Sunrise Mountain High School, SUU alumnus and current master in education student, will be speaking on behalf of SUU at the Nevada Veteran and Spouses Career Fair.

“The online programs that SUU offers are as rigorous and, in many classes, more challenging than the institutions I have attended in the past,” said Coleman. “The support staff and instructors are second to none and always willing to go out of their way to help students succeed.”

The Veterans and Spouses Career Fair is Saturday, November 19 at 9 am. The event will be held at Eldorado High School (1139 N. Linn Lane, Las Vegas).
