Middle & High School Students Tour Colleges via Trio Program

Students that participate in the TRIO Educational Talent Search Program through Southern Utah University have been busy exploring their college options this school year.
The students range in age from 7th grade through 12th grade and are from Beaver, Iron, Kane and Coconino (AZ) counties. The school year started off with 75 8th graders visiting Dixie State University and Dixie Applied Technology College on October 11, 2016.
On October 13-14, 2016 - 40 high school students experienced college life at Weber State University and Utah State University. Students also toured the Adobe facility and learned about careers and what it takes to work there.
9th grade Fredonia, AZ students then spent a day exploring Northern Arizona University. Valley High School students made a special trip to visit Dixie State University and SUU. High school students headed back out to experience what its really like to be a student at Snow College when they attended the Snow Blast weekend on February 3-4, 2017. Students were able to live on-campus and be a college student for a weekend.
129 7-8th grade students bombarded SUU’s campus on February 8, 2017 and had a great time exploring SUU’s campus and the campus of SWATC. 9th grade students will be visiting BYU and Utah Valley University on March 15, 2017 while 10th grade students will be visiting SUU and participating in a leadership training in April.
Housed by Southern Utah University and promoted in middle and high schools in the area, the Federal TRIO Program includes five outreaches stationed across the nation, aimed at motivating and supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO is an educational opportunity outreach program targeted to serve and assist students on their academic journey from middle school to post-baccalaureate opportunities and careers.
The Educational Talent Search Project (ETS) is one of these outreach programs that recruits and serves 636 students from Iron, Beaver and Kane counties in southern Utah, and Fredonia High School in Arizona, helping them develop study skills, fill out college and scholarship applications and plan for future career paths.Contact Information:
