A.P.E.X. Event Series: Meet the Business Building

suu new business building leavittThe A.P.E.X. Event Series is proud to bring audiences an inside look at SUU’s newest architectural entity. On February 1 at 11:30 A.M. the community of SUU and Cedar City will have a chance to learn about how the new Business building was designed and placed, as well as what it will bring to campus once completed. The event will be a roundtable style discussion with designers, SUU Business Faculty and Facilities key personnel. The event will be held in the Great Hall in the Hunter Conference Center.

The groundbreaking for the Business Building happened on April 27, 2017, and the massive 42,000 square-foot of academic space is expected to be completed in Fall of 2018. The push to construct the building began with a $7.5 million gift from the Dixie and Anne Leavitt Foundation in 2015. Afterwards, Utah Legislation approved the funds of $8 million to be added to the Business Building.

Members of the panel discussion will be:

  • Chad Neilson, MHTN Architects - Chief Executive Officer, project principal
  • Brian McBeth, Layton Construction - Project Manager
  • Mary Pearson, SUU - Dean, School of Business
  • Greg Powell, SUU - Associate Professor of Management/ Department Chair
  • Tiger Funk, SUU - Executive Director for Facilities Management 

Topics of discussion will include of the process of construction, evolution of designing a building, how the location is chosen, and what determines the need of a new building on campus.
