Grab your partner or friend, put on your best outfit, and dance the night away at the 2nd Annual Spring Swing Thing, a community dance for everybody. Community dances have raised the spirits and enhanced social life in communities nationwide since the early American colonial days. Spend a night on the town in a best-dressed environment and meet some new friends, or start a new hobby.

Dr. Adam Lambert, Director of Bands at Southern Utah University, said the SUU Jazz Ensemble is prepared with a collection of oldies for the community to enjoy a night of spin, sway, whirl and twirl to live music.

“They are excited to again take part in the Spring Swing Thing, where the community can experience big band swing dance music from the '40s and '50s brought back to life by the SUU Jazz Ensemble,” said Lambert. “This is a great opportunity for the student musicians to gain professional performance experience, and the community to receive excellent dance instruction by our very own Toni and James Sage while enjoying some good old fashion swing dancing.”

All community members, SUU faculty, staff, and students, are invited to join the SUU Music Department, SUU Community Education, and the SUU Jazz Ensemble on Saturday, March 2, 2019. SUU Community Education dance instructors Toni and James Sage will begin Spring Swing Thing with a dance lesson from 7 – 7:30 p.m. followed by a community dance and concert from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.

“We are hoping to build on the success of last year's event,” said Toni Sage, Director of Student Success at SUU. “We've continued to build a community of dancers in Cedar City through the many dance lessons that have been offered. But if you aren't a dancer, seeing a live big band is an experience not to miss — and the dancers are an added bonus that is fun to watch. There will be swing and foxtrot lessons during the event for those who wish to learn."

The lesson and dance take place in the Gilbert Great Hall of the Hunter Conference Center on the campus of SUU, 351 W. University Blvd., in Cedar City. Tickets for the event are $5 for students and $10 for non-students and can be purchased at https://tinyurl.com/ya369wdo.
