On February 5 a campus wide email was sent to all faculty, staff and students informing campus that SUU Administration was closely monitoring the novel coronavirus.

Subject: Health Advisory

Dear students, faculty, and staff:

You may have heard the recent news regarding the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Asia. According to the Utah Department of Health, there have been NO cases reported anywhere in Utah. The Utah Department of Health states “the immediate health risk from 2019-nCoV to the general public is believed to be low.”

Additional information regarding the coronavirus may be found at the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.

There have, however, been cases of the traditional influenza virus reported throughout Utah, including in Cedar City. In some instances, students have been forced to miss classes because of the flu. SUU Provost Robert Eves encourages faculty to be as flexible and accommodating as possible to students who are ill.

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to practice good health hygiene. We encourage all campus members to cover their mouths when sneezing and coughing, clean communal surfaces, wash their hands often, use hand sanitizer when available, and get plenty of rest.

Students, faculty and staff who develop flu-like symptoms (e.g., fever, headache, chills, etc.) should seek medical treatment.

If you have questions or need further information please contact the Student Affairs Office at (435) 586-7710.

Sincerely,
Provost Robert Eves and VP for Student Affairs Jared Tippets
