Tyger Riggs competes on Holey MoleyFrom a young age, Tyger Riggs has been inspired by watching golf tournaments. That passion came full circle earlier this year when Riggs had the chance to appear on the ABC Network’s golfing game show, Holey Moley.

Holey Moley is a competitive game show that pits players against each other in sudden death rounds on a supersized miniature golf course. The show began production in 2019, and it has only grown in influence and scope since then. In its most recent season, featuring Southern Utah University student Tyger Riggs, contestants compete for “The Golden Putter” trophy as well as a $250,000 grand prize.

A senior at SUU, Riggs has been playing golf ever since he was young. He started playing when he was a child, and now he works at a golf course as well as serving as the assistant coach for the Cedar High School Boys Golf Team.

The opportunity to appear on Holey Moley came as a shot in the dark. Riggs had been watching the show from the first season, and when he heard about the opportunity to apply, he decided to take a chance and send in an application.

“They mentioned they had applications, so I just thought I would fill one out,” Riggs said. “I ended up getting a call a few weeks later and did some video interviews until I was finally accepted into the show.”

The show filmed in early March of this year, and though the process was different from the flow of a normal game, Riggs reflected on how exciting the competition was to film.

“We would usually only film one of our holes a night because they had to move cameras and get the course ready again for the next hole, so it took them two or three weeks to film everybody,” he explained. “It was really just great being involved.”

Riggs’ highlights of the competition include working with his fellow contestants, as well as the opportunity to appear in a game show.

“The contestants were really nice and we were together a lot, which was a lot of fun. I was mostly excited to be on a competitive game show because I think they’re fun to watch and it was awesome to film and be a part of it!”

Riggs appears in season two, episode six of the ABC game show Holey Moley. The episode aired in late June, but the episode is still available to watch on Hulu or through ABC’s website.
