SUU's Festival of ExcellenceThe Festival of Excellence is an annual one-day event dedicated to celebrating Southern Utah University’s scholarly efforts by encouraging lifelong learning. Students and employees are encouraged to present their major projects, research, performances, displays, and any other type of scholarly activity.

Participation in the festival provides a valuable opportunity for students and faculty alike as they gain experience presenting their work in a professional atmosphere.

“We can likely all agree that this is one of the most difficult years in memory,” said Dr. Johnny MacLean, assistant provost for academic affairs at SUU. “However, in the midst of the turmoil, we're working harder than ever to succeed in and out of the classroom through undergraduate research, creative activity, and other meaningful curricular and co-curricular projects. True struggle enhances the need for celebration and the Festival of Excellence provides a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the hard-fought successes of this year.”

This year is set to be the largest Festival of Excellence SUU has seen with over 420 presentations scheduled for the day. Presentations will be a mix of synchronous remote and face-to-face to accommodate all presenters and audiences. Please see the Festival of Excellence program page for the exact time and location of each event.

In partnership with A.P.E.X. Events, Kerstin Plehwe will be highlighting the Festival of Excellence as the keynote speaker. Plehwe is an international business expert and visionary thought leader who is powered by her passion for excellence and innovation.

“Kerstin is absolutely one of the most inspiring women I have ever met,” said Dr. Lynn Vartan, director of A.P.E.X. Events. “She is the perfect fit for finishing off our season and celebrating the Festival of Excellence and will take us all to higher aims for sure.”

The keynote presentation will be held in the Great Hall of the Hunter Conference Center on March 31, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. The presentation will also be broadcast live for those that would like to participate virtually via Zoom.

The Festival of Excellence will take place on March 31, 2021. A full listing of presentations and performances can be found at suu.edu/excellence/program. The event is free and open to all faculty, staff and students.
