A.P.E.X. Events Presents First Lady H.E. Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi

First Lady H.E. Denise Nyakeru TshisekediSouthern Utah University's A.P.E.X. Events, in collaboration with the SUU Office of International Affairs, is honored to host Madam Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi on September 16, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. in the Great Hall of the Hunter Conference Center. H.E. Madam Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi is the first lady of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. 

“A.P.E.X. Events is thrilled to host a guest of such caliber to begin our 2021 season," said Dr. Lynn Vartan, director of A.P.E.X. Events. "Our international connections are so meaningful, and to have Madame Nyakeru Tshisekedi here is such an amazing opportunity for our students and community.”

Born March 9, 1967, in South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), H.E. Madam Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi is married to President Félix Tshisekedi and is the mother of five children. She obtained her diploma (BAC) in the DRC and continued her studies in Belgium where she subsequently began a career as a nurse.

Madam Nyakeru Tshisekedi is involved in the empowerment of Congolese women and girls and runs her own foundation named Foundation Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi (FDNT).

Appointed UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador in May 2019, for the fight against gender-based violence and the empowerment of women, she was also named “World Champion for the Prevention of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence” by the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in charge of this matter, in December 2019.

A.P.E.X. Events is SUU’s premier weekly lecture series, with speakers and presenters invited from all areas of the world. While on campus, guests are invited to interact with students and faculty in multiple ways, with opportunities to connect and network in vast areas of scholarship. All A.P.E.X. Events are free and open to the public.

This semester, A.P.E.X. Event presentations will also be streamed live, join the event virtually via Zoom.
