SUU Luminosa ChoirSUU’s Luminosa Choir will share an evening of peace with their concert titled, Anthem for Peace, on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall of the SUU Music Building. All of the songs will be a call for peace in some form. One of them calls for literal peace between people and nations. Another calls for peace of conscience through enlightenment. One calls for peace in the form of solitude and rest. This concert is free and open to the public.

Ashley Stackhouse, Director of Luminosa, shares, “The world has been in so much turmoil lately. It is easy to feel overwhelmed, forgotten, scared, or helpless in these trying times. It is my belief, however, that there is always a way forward to peace. This concert is one small way for Luminosa to help bring an evening of peace to those in attendance. The students have been working so hard to create a concert that will be a meaningful experience for all. I hope you join us!”

Luminosa is an auditioned choir specifically designed to provide a choral experience for treble voices, focusing on the exploration of quality literature from various stylistic and historical periods, and the development of vocal, choral, and musical skills. Luminosa is a Spanish word meaning, “full of light.”

Maddisyn Myers, a junior studying Secondary Choral Music Education from Bullhead City, Arizona, says, “Being such a small ensemble means communication and dedication are crucial. We’ve definitely learned that this semester. With that being said, I think we all work well together and have a great group dynamic. My favorite part about working on this concert is the true meaning behind it: peace. There is a lot of negativity going on in the world right now and peace is lacking. It can be difficult for people to find that sense of peace in times of trouble, but if we can provide even a little bit of peace through our music, we can make a difference. I’m excited to showcase that to the community!”
