Annual Thunder Sales Competition Hosted by Professional Sales

SUU Thunder Sales Competition Southern Utah University students across campus have a unique opportunity to participate in the second annual Thunder Sales competition on April 6, 2023, to practice pitching in front of businesses, network with hiring companies, and win prizes. The event will take place from 4-8:30 p.m., starting with a “Mix n’ Mingle” for judges and competitors to get to know each other, then a one-minute personal speed pitch, followed by a sales role-play competition where the top five competitors from this portion will move onto the final competition.

Run by SUU’s Professional Sales program, the competition invites students from all majors to participate, not just business majors or those interested in sales, allowing competitors to further work on or display those skills regardless of their current levels of experience. Additionally, the Professional Sales team will invite four competitors to join next year’s sales team where they will have the chance to travel and participate in competitions across the country.

Sponsors played a big role in providing funds for winners during the 2022 competition, and this year is no different; Federated Insurance will be this year’s primary sponsor, with others including VASA Fitness, Northwestern Mutual, Leavitt Group, American Pacific, BZI Steel, and Zonos. Each sponsor helps provide the cash and other prizes awarded to students to help them in their pursuits going forward academically and professionally.

A catered dinner from Chef Alfredo’s will be provided to judges and participants. Only 60 spots are available for the speed pitch and only 15 for the role-play portion. Registration is now open until April 4, and anyone interested in signing up can fill out the registration form. Participants are highly encouraged to participate in both the personal speed pitch and sales role-play portions if they’re interested.

SUU’s Professional Sales is an on-campus program that offers students the opportunity to advance their careers by becoming better equipped to sell themselves, their products and services, or their businesses. Through the program, students learn the fundamentals of selling, how to manage sales, entrepreneurial skills, and participate in competitions and networking events that can be applied to a variety of different careers.
