SUU Starmaker statueSouthern Utah University is celebrating International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month with events centered around and created by the women of the SUU and Cedar City communities. The kick-off for the month-long celebration was a social gathering and poster session in the Sharwan Smith Student Center.

“This is our third campus-wide celebration,” said Dr. Laura June Davis, associate professor of History, co-coordinator for Women and Gender Studies, and SUU Women’s Network advisory board member. “Each year, it has gotten bigger and bigger, highlighting SUU’s commitment to recognizing the often overlooked contributions of female students, faculty, and staff. Eleven different campus groups have come together to host a variety of educational events about inspiring campus women, gender equity, and women in leadership.”

This month's events will include lectures and panels focused on the collective theme of “Celebrating Women. Telling Their Stories” and are organized by A.P.E.X. Events, the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, History, Sociology, and Anthropology Department, English Department, Michael O. Leavitt Center for Politics and Public Service, Master of Public Administration Program, Southern Utah Museum of Art, SUU Women's Network, Tanner Center, Women and Gender Studies Program, and Women in Business. All events are free and open to students, faculty, and staff.
