Southern Utah University is excited to announce that the Cyberdefense club will be attending The Hack The Building national competition. The Hack The Building 2.0 Hospital Edition is a round-two competition held at the DreamPort Facility in Columbia, Maryland, held from Monday, September 18 - Friday, September 22. As the club competes against other universities and professional cyber teams including Texas A&M and the U.S. Army, they will represent the SUU T-Birds with pride.

This cybersecurity event run by MISI, DreamPort and The National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) providing an amazing opportunity for students’ academic growth.

The competition will gather cybersecurity intellectuals from all over the country including 12 NCAE-C teams, and a variety of exercises and presentations for both professionals and students will be given.

“In late Spring of 2023, our Cyberdefense club team advanced to the national finals for the Hack The Building 2.0 (Hack The Hospital) team,” said Glen Sagers, department chair and associate professor for the department of Computer Science and Cybersecurity at SUU. “This is a protect-and-defend competition that pits professional penetration testers against collegiate teams, who have to keep them from breaking into medical records systems, devices and the networks that support the IT.”

Bringing cybersecurity together to accomplish objectives MISI, DreamPort and the NCAE-C warmly welcomes participants once again this fall. After last year, with over 50 speakers, 2000 attendees, 70 sessions and 30 competing cyber teams, SUU is excited to return and gain a better understanding of healthcare system infrastructures.
