Carlos BarronCedar City, UT – For Carlos Barron, Southern Utah University isn't just a place of study; it's a launchpad. Hailing from Mexico with a vibrant energy and an insatiable curiosity, Barron is soaring through his academic journey, double majoring in finance and marketing with a minor in professional sales and entrepreneurship. His story is a testament to the power of community, personalized learning, and the freedom to explore one's passions at SUU.

From the moment he arrived on campus, Barron recognized the heartbeat of SUU: its people.  This emphasis on connection has been a cornerstone of his thriving experience.

"The first resource and the most important resource in every company and every organization is always people," he said. "SUU has such a strong sense of community that I believe really teaches you how to work with people and how to achieve things together."

What truly sets SUU's business program apart for Barron is the deeply personal investment from faculty. This individualized approach has empowered him to delve into his multifaceted interests.

"It's just so specialized to you," he said. "It's not on a general level; it's more of a personal level. It's more about you, and ‘how can we make you succeed?’"

The allure of numbers and the analytical intricacies of finance is what initially drew Barron to his area of study. This fascination is perfectly balanced by his intrigue with marketing – understanding consumer behavior, motivations, and the art of delivering value.

"I just like to see where people put their intentions,” he said. “How they buy, and what their emotions and their personality drive them to buy, and who to be."

Looking ahead, Barron envisions a future where his passions converge, potentially in financial advising. Barron's path to his current academic pursuits, however, wasn't a straight line. He has switched his major four times, a journey of exploration guided by the supportive faculty at SUU. This personalized guidance highlights the profound impact of SUU's faculty, who go beyond lectures to truly understand and mentor their students.

Barron embraces the philosophy that "it's good to try out new things and then fail and get better at it." Throughout his time at SUU he has actively sought diverse experiences, from working for the Forest Service to delving into marketing roles. This willingness to step outside his comfort zone is a testament to the spirit of entrepreneurship fostered at SUU.

Beyond academics, Barron has thrived through involvement in clubs like FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), which has provided invaluable real-world scenarios and travel opportunities. These experiences have broadened his network and provided practical application of his studies.

The vibrant community at SUU is another aspect that fuels Barron's soaring trajectory. "I just love how personable everything is here," he shares. "Wherever you go, people are going to say hi. They're just there for you every step of the way." This extends beyond casual greetings, fostering deep connections and a supportive environment where students feel seen and valued.

One particularly impactful memory involves a professor who went above and beyond to support Barron during a challenging summer sales job. This act of selfless care deeply resonated with him, solidifying his belief in the genuine investment SUU faculty have in their students' success.

Inspired by his experiences and the entrepreneurial spirit nurtured at SUU, Barron is already developing his own ventures, including a financial planning app specifically designed for young adults. This innovative mindset showcases the tangible outcomes of SUU's commitment to fostering future leaders.

When asked what he would tell prospective students, Barron's message is clear: "This is a place for you. Everything about SUU is for you. There are people there in every aspect of your life willing to help you."

As he approaches graduation in Spring of 2026, Carlos Barron exudes quiet confidence, a Thunderbird ready to take flight. "I feel confident that the right opportunity will come," he affirms. "I think SUU has built a solid foundation for me to go out there. I'm certain that I have all the tools and all the skills to build upon that foundation and keep on learning."

His journey at Southern Utah University is not just about earning degrees; it's about personal growth, meaningful connections, and the exhilarating ascent of a student who is truly soaring.
