Southern Utah University is excited to welcome four outstanding students from American Samoa who will be joining T-Bird Nation for the 2025-2026 academic year: Jireh Mauigoa, Kailel Ngiraiwet, Kathleen Sagapolutele, Dizon Danju Aemanuelle Jagon, and Kailel Ngiraiwet. These exceptional graduates have earned top honors as valedictorian or salutatorian from their respective high schools. They are now preparing to continue their academic journeys at SUU, where they are expected to thrive and contribute to their communities.
"We are thrilled to welcome these bright and driven students to Southern Utah University," said Dr. Stephen Allen, vice president for International Affairs. "Their achievements speak to their hard work, commitment to excellence, and strong leadership. We are confident that they will continue to shine as they join our diverse and supportive academic community."
Mauigoa, the Valedictorian of Nu'uuli Voc-Tech High School, is a remarkable leader who has received several awards, including the Male Leadership Award, Male Tradesman Award, Citizenship Award, and Academic Excellence Award. Mauigoa achieved the second-highest SAT score among his peers. He also served as Student Body President, National Technical Honor Society President, won the NTHS Presidency award, and was Close-Up Club President. He also became NOCTI certified, highlighting his dedication to both academic success and leadership.
Sagapolutele, Co-Valedictorian from Fa'asao Marist High School, earned top honors in U.S. History and Government, Calculus, and Physics. She has also made a mark in various science competitions, such as placing 6th overall at the Island-Wide Science Symposium in Hilo, Hawaii, in January 2025, as well as earning the highest SAT score at her school. Sagapolutele chose SUU for its affordability and support system for students from American Samoa, and plans to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering.
Dizon Danju Aemanuelle Jagon, Salutatorian from Pacific Horizon Academy, has been a dedicated leader, serving as a Founding Officer of the HOSA Chapter, Vice President of the National Honor Society, and Chief Editor of the school yearbook. Drawn to SUU by his passion for presenting evidence and for the beautiful scenery of southern Utah, Jagon has chosen to pursue Criminal Justice and is eager to experience the opportunities that come with being an international student at SUU.
Ngiraiwet, the Valedictorian of Tafuna High School, stated that he's very excited to attend SUU and thankful for the educational opportunities that SUU has to offer him.
The accomplishments of these students reflect their dedication, resilience, and the strong support they have received from their families, teachers, and mentors. As they take the next step in their academic journeys at SUU, they will join a vibrant university community that values academic excellence, leadership, and community engagement.
