The SUU Department of Theatre, Dance, & Arts Administration presents Cry Wolf: A Play With Magic, written and performed by alumnus Rhett Guter (‘10) and directed by acclaimed Broadway and Cirque du Soleil director West Hyler. Performances will take place September 11, 12, and 13 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on September 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall. Tickets are $25 for general admission and just $5 at the door for SUU students with a valid SUU I.D.
Part game show, part theatrical magic, and part personal storytelling, Cry Wolf invites audiences into a high-stakes investigation of truth and deception. Designed as an interactive experience where audience members become contestants, the show blends the thrill of a large-scale production with the intimacy of a one-man performance. Over 85 minutes, Guter explores the roles we play and the ones we choose through mind-bending illusions, professional dance, and deeply personal revelations.
“SUU shaped my artistic foundation, and it is deeply meaningful to share this work with current students and the community that fostered my growth,” said Guter. “Having performed everywhere from the Utah Shakespeare Festival to Broadway tours, I know the impact that exposure to innovative, professional work can have on developing artists.”
This production marks the first full staging of Cry Wolf, following four years of development and workshops at the Olney Theatre Center, the South Carolina New Play Festival, and the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts. After its premiere at SUU, Guter will bring the show to the Center for the Arts at Kayenta for performances September 18-21 and September 25-27.
Don’t miss this opportunity to see this amazing production. Patrons wanting tickets can stop by the Utah Shakespeare Festival ticket office or call 800-PLAYTIX (752-9849).
