CEDAR CITY, Utah--A new academic year is underway at Southern Utah University, and the new SUUSA Executive Council is soaring forward, with Landon Lee serving as the 2025-26 SUUSA Student Body President. A senior from Fillmore, Utah, Lee is studying exercise science with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. His journey to SUU began with a feeling of community that made Cedar City feel like home, a sentiment he now hopes to extend to every student on campus.
Lee's experience as an ACE (Student Peer Mentor) during his sophomore and junior years, and his role as the academic senator for the College of Health Sciences, prepared him for his current role. These experiences showed him how much he enjoys connecting with students and solidified his decision to serve as a genuine advocate. Lee's primary motivation for running for president was the commitment to students he saw in past leaders.
"If I can make even one student's day better by listening, supporting, and advocating for them, I will always give my full effort to do so," Lee said.
His campaign was a significant learning experience, showing him the immense support that surrounds him, from new and old connections and his incredible campaign team. He realized this support is always there, even in the most challenging moments.
This year, Lee's administration is focused on two primary goals: increasing student wages and empowering the student voice. Acknowledging the rising cost of living, Lee and his team are in active discussions with the University's leaders about increasing student wages. They are also exploring the possibility of introducing new dining options to campus that would not only provide students with more places to eat and connect, but also create additional job opportunities.
Under the motto, "We Hear You, We See You, We Lead Together," Lee is committed to ensuring every student feels represented and heard. His team plans to be more visible and present on campus, actively seeking out student feedback rather than waiting for it to come to them. They have also made it a priority to respond thoughtfully to every single submission on the MySUU Voice platform, ensuring each concern is not just heard, but validated.
"Our team is committed to being present and visible on campus so that students can put a name to a face and feel comfortable reaching out," said Lee.
Lee's advocacy also extends beyond campus. He is working to help students understand the importance of their student fees, which fund critical services such as the Tutoring Center, the Hope Pantry, the STIL Office, and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).
"What's most important to recognize is that students have a say in how these fees are allocated," said Lee. "This means you, as a student, have the power to shape where resources go, what programs are supported, and ultimately, how our campus community grows."
During his time as president Lee hopes to create a campus community where every student feels welcomed and included, creating a place that feels like a family. This includes maintaining a culture of support through academic and mental health resources and introducing new career readiness programs in partnership with the Career Center. The goal is to provide students with the skills and opportunities they need to succeed long after graduation.
"I envision a campus community where every student feels welcomed and included," said Lee. "Whether that's at student events filled with energy and excitement or at sporting events where we proudly and loudly cheer on our T-Birds. I see SUU as a place where students are supported in every way, from access to tutoring and academic resources to the mental health services they may need along the way."
"New and returning T-birds need to have fun and be involved! Don't worry about 'trying to fit in' and just be yourself," said Lee. "Get out there and do uncomfortable things because you'll never know what jump made you soar!"
Students can connect with Lee and the SUUSA Executive Council by submitting a MySUU Voice response, visiting the SUUSA website, or by stopping by their office in the STIL (ST177) during office hours.Tags: Campus Student CurStu Campus Resources SUUSA Student Life
