Admission is free and open to all.

Directed by Dr. McKay Tebbs, the showcase will feature five dynamic ensembles representing SUU’s growing Commercial Music program: Alternate Currents, Direct Currents, Commercial Breaks, Backyard Arcade, and the Brazilian Band. Each group will bring its own flavor to the evening, performing pop, rock, indie, and even Brazilian Pagode, styles that highlight the versatility and creativity of SUU’s Commercial Music students.

“The Commercial Music Showcase is an opportunity for our students to be featured performing in our Commercial Music ensembles,” said Dr. Tebbs. “From pop/rock covers with Direct Currents, to singer/songwriter originals from Commercial Breaks, and indie-rock from Backyard Arcade, we’ve got everything and more. Come check out the great music these groups have been working on this summer.”

The Commercial Music program at SUU launched in the fall of 2022 and has already made its mark on the regional and national music scene. Students have won Thunder 91’s Battle of the Bands, performed at the prestigious National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Trade Show in Anaheim, California, and booked numerous performances throughout southern Utah.

The program equips students with real-world skills in music technology, audio recording, songwriting, and music entrepreneurship, preparing them for careers in today’s competitive music industry. In addition to earning a Bachelor of Music degree, students gain hands-on experience with professional recording tools, attend national networking events, and graduate with industry-recognized software certifications.

Join SUU’s Commercial Music students for an evening of fresh sounds, high energy, and original artistry. For more information about SUU’s Commercial Music program, visit www.suu.edu/pva/music/commercial-music.html.
